The criteria that are involved in this sample work are Criteria A, C and D. Criterion A is knowledge and understanding (of mathematical modeling), Criterion C is Communicating (using charts, graphs and pictures) and Criterion D is Reflection (often using real-life problems). My chosen sample work is the investigation test I got about Mathematical modeling of tides spanning different times in Nova Scotia, using tables, charts and graphs to show the percentage error and picture to show the real-life situation with similar context. I chose this sample work because I earned a very high score in this investigation, which is a big deal since this test covers three criteria and is a major part of the quarter’s examination. This sample is very necessary and beneficial since I got to actually calculate and investigate a real-life data that occurs in a daily basis. I got to solve a problem that is actually in existence in the world (precisely in Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia). This gave me a whole new purpose to mathematics and how it is important to calculate and use it in real-life situations, to prevent accidents. I followed each and every specification of the criteria given by ticking each strand I accomplished with pencil. In the beginning I underlined important terms and instructions in each criterion description, and after I finished my investigation I ended up with ticks for every specification and strand, which led me to these amazing grades. I could have improved by fixing very minor errors like my teacher had commented me to, for example placing the labels on the x and y-axis with units (hours (x) and meters (y)) instead of (Time (X) and Height (y)). The key concept, connections, relates with this subject and especially with this test since this test is not just an ordinary test with equations to solve and fictional word problems to solve, but instead the test was about the mathematical calculations used to solve a problem that is connected to a real-life situation. Plus I developed in with this key concept as I connected each of the mathematical problem I received to actual circumstances to create a better visualization of the problem, and find its practical use. Also I increased my understanding on this key concept as I explored more on the real-life situation of the mathematical problem, how it could be applied and solved.
